I have been working on this since mid-May and I have finally felt happy enough to publish it. It is a story about the trash pickers in Jakarta.
It was a quite tough story because I didn’t really know what to focus on and it felt that I had taken on an issue that was a bit too big for me. It was such a massive thing to meet these people who with a smile invited me into their lives with a camera. Seeing the conditions they were living and working in was overwhelming, and I didn’t feel that any of my images could really do it justice. So I had to put the images down for a bit and let everything sink in. So, after a lot of toing and froing and head-scratching I managed to THIS reportage together. x
